ARTOPIA Presented by Miracle Mile: Every year, New Times accepts applications for our annual MasterMind Awards. This year, we received more than 120 applications and, though it was a difficult choice, we've whittled it down to 10 finalists. Each finalist will be featured in a upcoming issue of New Times. In addition, they'll also have the opportunity to exhibit their work at our annual event, Artopia, held February 26 at the Coral Gables Museum. New Times, with the wise counsel of past MasterMind winners, will choose three winners from our group of finalists and award them each a $1,000 grant.

Congratulations to all of our finalists:

Jason Fitzroy Jeffers: Co-writer and co-producer of Papa Machete, a documentary about machete fighting in Haiti.

Hattie Mae Williams: "Renegade dancer" and choreographer who stages guerrilla ballet in odd locales.

Bistoury Theater: A contemporary dance company that incorporates film, sculpture, and theater into its works.

Liz Ferrer: A performance artist known for her art collective, Southernmost Situations, which is inspired by weird Florida history like the abandoned town of Islandia.

Randy Burman: The artist uses found art for installation pieces. He's best known for his O, Miami series for which he installed street signs with enigmatic poetry around town.

Jolt Radio: A "a free-format online radio station" based in Wynwood known as an incubator for underground acts.

Alex Trimino: This Colombian-born artist combines neon lights, crochet, and knitting into amazing sculpture.

Limited Fanfare: A rock-focused indie label that has churned out 30 releases in the past five years from notable up-and-comers like Ex Norwegian and Little Daggers.

TM Sisters: Practically a Miami institution, they're the city's favorite digital-video performance siblings.

John Bailly: This Yale-educated painter is a faculty fellow at Florida International Unviersity who recently collaborated with poet laureate Richard Blanco.
