WHAT: The South Florida Chapter of the American Institute of Wine & Food and Whole Foods Market are thrilled to announce they will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Days of Taste with an extravaganza at Jungle Island in Miami. More than 350 Dade County students from 11 elementary schools will journey to the park for the celebration. The fifth graders will experience a group nutrition lesson by a culinary professor from Florida International University; various vendor stations; a nutritious lunch; free gift bags and full use of the park facilities. Whole Foods Market will be on-hand to give out delicious grape and green smoothies as well as dried tropical fruit. In addition, Whole Foods Market will provide lunch for all event attendees including children, teachers, and chaperones from the schools, vendors, and volunteers. The AIWF believes the nutritional impact and learning experience it’ll provide during this one day “super-sized” Days of Taste will last for years in the hearts and minds of the children. Whole Foods Market has been a proud partner of AIWF’s Days of Taste program since 2008.
WHEN: Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Schedule follows:
· 9 AM to 9:45 AM – Schools arrive at Serpentarium pavilion entrance
· 9:45 AM to 10:15 AM – Days of Taste event schedule presented to students in the Serpentarium pavilion by Chef Mike Moran of FIU
· 10:15 AM to 10:35 AM – Serpentarium show for all students
· 10:35 AM to 1:30 PM – Children divided into groups, alternating between visiting vendor stations, having lunch and attending Jungle Island attractions

AIWF Days of Taste is a discovery-based program for fourth and fifth grade children to learn about food, and how it weaves its way through daily life from the farm to the table. The program teams up chefs, food professionals, farmers and teachers to guide elementary school children through an exploration of food and nutrition, giving them the opportunity to discuss, savor and compare different taste sensations and flavor from locally grown foods.
