For the best eats this weekend has to offer, these are the restaurants we recommend.

The Federal Food, Drink & Provisions

This past Friday, The Federal Food, Drink and Provisions was featured on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, a show that brings people awareness on local culinary hotspots that they may not otherwise know about. Although we wouldn’t necessarily call The Federal any of the three, we are quite proud that one of our local favorites was on the show. The downside to the Federal being featured on the show is that it used to be hard to snag a table on a weekend, but now it will be downright impossible. We suggest you come check out this restaurant soon, as there will be a few airings of the episode, drawing crowds in masses. The menu is full of delectable food, but we recommend the ambitious Pig Wings ($6), the Chili and Fries ($14), and the Jar O’Duck ($12). Our favorite of the trio is the Chili and Fries, made from venison chili, polenta fries, and topped with cotija cheese and chipotle powder. This nod to elevated bar food is satisfying enough to be hearty, but in the hands of The Federal’s kitchen, it offers a sense of refinement. This is much more than we can say from other chili cheese fries we’ve sampled.

Donuts at Sweetness Bakeshop

Much like fried chicken or bacon, donuts are beginning to take on the national spotlight when it comes to foodie infatuation. We don’t mean this as a complaint, as we love them as well. How could you possibly not like fried dough, covered and rolled in sugar and spices, and sometimes filled with custards or jelly? Donuts serve as the perfect excuse to eat dessert for breakfast, and any food that does that is okay in our books. While you can always head to Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme to satisfy your donut craving, we believe you should head to Sweetness Bake Shop this weekend. This small, albeit popular, bakery serves donuts (prices depend on donut) Fridays through Sundays, with unique and Miamian twists on the famous confection. Come for the Oreo topped, maple bacon, or better yet, the arroz con leche filled donuts. This Friday is national donut day, so there is no better reason to indulge. We suggest you call early in the morning to reserve your donut.

Negroni at the Social Club

This week is Negroni Week at The Social Club. This bar, located within the Surfcomber South Beach, takes a culinary approach to the cocktail menu. Since it is Negroni Week, order one of their negronis ($13), where $3 from each negroni sold will go towards the Dan Marino Foundation, helping to improve the lives of people with autism and other special needs. For the uninformed, The Negroni cocktail is made of one part gin, one part red vermouth, and one part campari, garnished with orange peel. If you get hungry, we recommend the Jumbo Scallops ($14), served with Red Pepper Chimichurri, Pork Belly, and Arugula. The pork belly is crispy and plays wonderfully against the silky texture of the perfectly executed scallops, further enhancing the natural sweetness of the scallops through its saltiness.

Lobster at Naked Taco

Calling all lobster lovers!!! Ralph Pagano, owner and chef of South Beach’ Naked Taco, is launching "Lobster Baked Thursdays" at his Mexican-inspired restaurant. Hoping to become "Miami's official lobster king," Pagano will offer one-and-a-quarter pound lobster, clams, mussels, potatoes and corn in a bucket for only $25. Naked Taco also offers three dozen tequilas, 10 styles of margaritas, and limited selections of wine and Mexican beer.

Uncle Toms BBQ

Known as a Miami landmark and institution, Uncle Toms has called 8th street its home for more than 60 years. Last year, it had a deteriorating fire accident that forced it to close its doors, but after months of renovations, it is finally time for Uncle Toms to open its doors once more. Back and better than ever, Uncle Toms BBQ is staying true to its original recipe for success, and will feature genuine pit barbecue dishes such as baby back ribs, spare ribs, chicken, pork, beef or BBQ brisket platters. Althouogh the food is the same, the interior may look somewhat more modern, with TVs lining the walls and LED lights hanging from the ceiling. Uncle Toms BBQ is in its soft opening stage, so it’s still a bit of a treat for those in the know, AKA you. So make your way down to a Miamian staple and indulge in some authentic Miami BBQ doused in their addictive sauce.
