The Amatrice earthquake has shaken Graspa Group’s Italian team to the core. So far the team’s families and friends seem to be all healthy and accounted for.
With that said, Graspa Group is pledging to support those in need in the beautiful town of Amatrice and surrounding areas. Each of Graspa’s restaurants will serve an All’Amatriciana special and will donate $2 for every order. Supporters can also donate online here. This is an initiative that sprouted earlier today in Italy’s most renowned kitchens. It is being called Amatriciana, with “ama” emphasizing love, with chefs serving the signature pasta dish and donating 2 Euros per dish ordered. Our own chefs in Miami have committed to supporting and bringing this initiative to the United States.
Salumeria 104 (Chef Angelo Masarin) and TiramesU (Chef Fabrizio Pintus) will bring back to their menu the traditional Bucatini all’Amatriciana where the signature sauce from the region showcases tomato, pancetta, caramelized onions, crushed red pepper and cheese. Spris Midtown, Downtown and Lincoln Road will add to their menus the Pizza Amatriciana with the same ingredients. Segafredo L’Originale and Bayside will make the Bloody Marys their Amatriciana special.
Graspa Group’s hope is to raise as much money as possible and send it to the Croce Rossa Italiana, the Italian branch of the Red Cross. The Crocce Rossa is already on the scene of the earthquake with much needed tools and volunteers to help find the survivors. The next stage of relief will include shelter, food, clothing, water and more for those left without a home to go back to.
Graziano Sbroggio’s only words at this time are: “We will do everything we can to help on our end. We are devastated and feel our friends and families’ pain to the core. Our prayers are with the Italian community in this time of loss and need.”
In the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 24th, 2016, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook in the heart of Italy.
With the historic small mountainous town of Amatrice as the epicenter, 2,000 residents had their life changed forever in a matter of minutes. Where beautiful homes were once filled with joy and dinner tables thrived with happiness, now stand piles of rubbles.
The Italian Red Cross together with the civil protection agency and many volunteers first worked relentlessly to remove survivors from the debris and today provide food, shelter and a sense of community to those in need.
Amatrice is the home of the famous Amatriciana sauce, one of Italy’s most popular pasta sauces around the world. Made with guanciale (cured pork cheek), tomato, onions and pecorino cheese, Amatriciana is even recognized by the Italian Government as a traditional agro-alimentary product.
Still nursing scars from the 2009 earthquake in Abruzzo, the Italian community has once again bonded together to rebuild. Graspa Group has created a fund to help those efforts. Donate here or order our all’Amatriana special at one of their participating restaurants to donate.
We thank you for your generosity.
