Wynwood is easily one of the trendiest destinations in the country, making it a must-see on any trip to Miami. From the cool hangout spots to the ever-changing street art and exciting festivals that seem to happen every weekend — there’s always something new to check out in this artistic neighborhood.
Here are five places you must visit when you are in Wynwood:
Anyone who mentions Wynwood almost always thinks of Wynwood Walls right off the bat. This outdoor gallery is home to dozens of massive street murals created by artists from all over the world. It’s free to the public and open daily. It was established in 2009 and has grown to attract attention from street artists across the globe. At any given time of day, you’ll find visitors posing with the various walls as they make for a perfect, “I came to Miami” memory. Check out Miami Culinary Tours’ Wynwood Food And Art Tour to try some great bites in the area while learning more about the Wynwood art scene.
Food halls seem to be all the rage these days, as they are popping up all over every major city in the country — with Miami being no exception. Wynwood is home to 1-800-Lucky, an Asian food hall by day and party hotspot by night. Here guests will find an array of Asian specialties including poke bowls, ramen, dumplings, peking duck, sushi, red bean soft serve, and more. Once the sun sets, expect the sounds of a DJ to fill the air. There’s a full cocktail bar that features happy hour every day from 4 to 7 p.m. Food is served until midnight, but the party goes until 3 a.m.
One of Wynwood’s many breweries
Wynwood has come Miami’s mecca when it comes to locally brewed beer. The neighborhood is home to a handful of breweries. Pick one that suits your style or create your own beer tour and visit them all. There’s Veza Sur, Concrete Beach, J. Wakefield Brewery, and Wynwood Brewing Company. Beer lovers will find everything from IPAs to sours to porters, rose ales, and more. Each brewery has its own line of beers that work with local produce and coffee growers to create their unique blends.
Walking around taking in all the art that Wynwood has to offer is bound to work up a sweet tooth. Enter Pink Pie, the perfect spot for a quick bite (or two) of something sweet. This bright little pie shop is known for its mini pies served in both sweet and savory flavors. The flavors rotate constantly with several flavors available each day — including the Key Lime and Oreo Nutella that are available all year long. Other sweet pies include guava, birthday cake and pistachio. When it comes to the savory pies, pie enthusiasts will delight in flavors like buffalo chicken, potato corn bacon, Cuban, and butternut squash with goat cheese. Pies start at $3.
Astra is a Greek-inspired rooftop above an Italian restaurant whose open-air concept boosts stunning views of downtown Miami’s skyline as well as a bird’s eye view of the happenings in Wynwood. The oversized sofas and cabana-like canopies make guests feel as though they’ve been transported to another place, with a Miami twist. Astra’s menu features Greek dishes, along with bar bites, and plenty of cocktails. Stop in during Sunset Hour for special pricing with beers for $5 and specialty cocktails for as low as $7.
